Life or death situation
Well I'm posting here at Hampton and it's about 1a.m. I had a whole bunch of police here looking for someone that was staying here. Usually these things just revolve around them talking to the person about what happened that made them end up staying at the hotel, nothing too serious. Well, tonight was a different matter. First there were 3 Janesville P.D. then about 2 more, then 2 Rock County Sherriff's. So I knew something was up. One of the sheriffs asked for a key because the man appearantly wouldn't let them in. A few minutes later a very distressed man came in and asked "What are all the cops doing here?", I said "They're just looking for someone." The man said "That's my dad." I told him they were on the second floor, which I probably shouldn't have but his face was that of just sheer horror, like something terrible was going to happen. There's only bits and pieces of what I could gather, mostly from the son on his cell phone. Appearantly his father wrote a suicide note and was going here to finish the job. The son just wanted to see his dad but his dad said no which made me have to choke back some emotion because it brought a flashback in my mind of when I was talking to social workers when they asked me if I wanted to talk to my mother after my sister called social services when I was young. I said "No." I think the dad was just so embarrased that he couldn't face him like this. The son said "Can you pass on a message? Tell him I love him." So sad, I don't know even know why the man was contemplating it but I still really feel for the son, even more so than the man who was going to take his own life. I just got the keys from the sons who cleared the room out. I have the chills right now. Before this, Mayra, our new employee was just whining and whining about every little problem in her life. I actually felt a real problem tonight. Something that stops everything. You can't do anything but focus all your attention on this problem. The relief in the sons voice when they found him was just remarkable. So many trivial problems effect our lives that when something like this happens all you can do is just laugh at them. It's like everyday for your life you have a cut on your finger, then one day you lose your arm. The cuts just a cut. I don't know all that much about life but I can empathize for people that are going through real tradgedy. Well I just thought I would write this while it's fresh in my mind so I will be off to do some more work. Hopefully Mayra will be in in the morning. I will talk to you all later.

Far too many people are preoccupied with their own superficial concerns and are so swept up in them that they become convinced that they are consumed by hardship, and when viewed objectively, this really isn't the case at all. It's the limitedness of our perception that allows some to be mired in their "problems," when these usually are but a trifle and don't mean anything in the long run. At all, really.
Everyone should take a chill pill, for cryin' out loud.
